Billionaire Brad Kelley listed about half a million acres’ worth of properties this week, with asking prices totaling $500 million, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The first of the properties comprises 50,658 acres in New Mexico. It’s called Dawson Elk Valley Ranch, and it is well-named; herds of the majestic beasts are known to populate it, along with bear, deer, bobcats and mountain lions, and wild turkeys, among other wildlife. The Vermejo River cruises through eleven miles of the land; it is the culmination of creeks, canyons, and valleys.
In the northern section of the ranch, timbered forests and mountains predominate. This area is called Sangre de Cristos. There are also mesas and valley landscapes in the diverse acreage.
The second property is located in Texas; like Texas, it is somewhat larger: the land offered for sale measures about 420,000 acres. It’s called Brewster Ranches, and, to put its acreage in perspective, it’s about half the size of Rhode Island; it is comprised of 22 original properties that were purchased over decades. Its expanse includes prominent features—Pine Mountain, Dove Mountain, Sheley Peaks, San Francisco Creek, Maravillas Canyon, Reed Spring and Yellow House, among many others.
Brewster Ranches could be yours for $404 million; Dawson Elk Valley Ranch is priced at $96 million.
Kelley founded the Commonwealth Brands tobacco company in 1991 and sold it a decade later for $1 billion. His net worth is north of $2 billion.
