Private equity investor J. Christopher Flowers is reportedly purchasing an apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan this winter; he is parting with $50 million to pick up the investment-grade co-op, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The building dates to 1920. It was designed by James E.R. Carpenter, and it rises 12 stories above terra firma. There are sixteen highly exclusive units in all in the limestone building, with many featuring Central Park views.

With 13 rooms excluding baths, the unit’s square footage is substantial for an apartment: at least 7,500 square feet. The layout defies expectations to some degree, with an adjacent living room and library occupying one end, and the master suite adjacent to the other bedrooms.

The gallery that begins the unit is 36 feet in length; the master suite features a sitting room as large as the bedroom, as well as a large dressing room, and a pair of walk-in closets. The apartment features period details that include crown moldings, hardwood paneling, and tile floors.

Flowers founded J.C. Flowers & Co. in 2001. His net worth is north of $1 billion.
