A house on Oahu that was a childhood home of former President Barack Obama hit the open market this week with an asking price of $2.2 million.
The Craftsman-inspired bungalow was built in 1947, and occupied by the Obamas during the 1960s. The main house is modestly sized—it measures around 2,000 square feet—and contains four bedrooms and three baths; a guest house on the property adds another roughly 300 square feet to the total interior living area, and there is a 334 square foot covered lanai on the quarter-acre lot.
The interiors of the main house are understated suburban, and since the home has gone decades without a significant renovation, they reflect a bygone era. Narrow-plank hardwood floors and banks of windows distinguish the living room, along with a set of French doors that open to the lanai. The kitchen is straightforward, no frills, with a fairly recent set of appliances, limited counter space, and a few small windows.
The second structure is a studio with one bath. It features a tight living/sleeping area with good light.
Barack Obama’s more recent homes include this estate on Martha’s Vineyard, which the former president—along with first lady Michelle—purchased last year from Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck for $12 million.
