Food Network staple and culinary efficiency expert Sandra Lee recently picked up a Malibu waterfront home that hadn’t been for sale in over half a century. The 1948-built cottage—which has been expanded over the years—sapped $3.4 million from Lee’s bank account, but pays off with a unique location, and a series of attractive amenities.
The home is positioned on a rocky outcropping off the PCH. Steps have been cut into the stone face, allowing access to the rocky beach below, and there are steps leading down from the lawn adjacent to the house, which is protected by a wall of privacy hedge. A brick courtyard acts as a warm and spacious preamble to the interior living area.
Inside, the living style is rustic, but updates have whitewashed the vaulted ceilings and exposed trusses. Surrounded by neutrals, the red brick fireplace accent wall stands out in relief, drawing the eye as the centerpiece of the common area. The kitchen receives a dose of exposed brick as well, and a red tile floor as well; otherwise it, too, is largely ethereal, with cabinetry and countertops all blazing white.
The deck overlooking the ocean is the heart of the home, though, with doors and retractable glass opening toward it as the natural context. It’s floored with hardwood, and features a glass balustrade.
Lee has been with the Food Network since 2003, when her program ‘Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee’ premiered.
