Actor Joe Mantegna listed his longtime home in Los Angeles recently with an asking price of $4.195 million. Mantegna has owned the property since 1991, when he purchased it for a paltry $1.6 million.

A Tudor style dating to 1989, the house features exposed timber, brick, and diamond mullion windows. It measures 7,363 square feet, and contains four bedrooms and six baths.

The living style of this house is invitingly eclectic. Details include herringbone-pattern hardwood floors, built-ins, varied wainscoting, and an off-white treatment for abundant reflected light. Both the living room and family room receive a fireplace; the former boasts a French-style mantel and a raised marble hearth step, the latter a rounded arch with a black border.

The kitchen boasts cabinetry with glass panels, tile backsplashes in a herringbone pattern, and a hardwood island. The entertainment room’s wet bar and vaulted timber ceiling makes it a space with generosity and bonhomie to spare, but the master suite gets the prize as the home’s centerpiece, with a fireplace, French doors opening to a balcony, and a bath and dressing room that each receive high marks for sheer scale.

The lot is of fair size, extending to about half an acre. Privacy hedges surround a fine stretch of lawn, and a pool and spa, and the fireplace and dining/lounging area that fill out the exterior living style.

Mantegna’s career includes roles in several David Mamet films, including 1987’s now-classic House of Games; in 2000, he directed the film version of Mamet’s play Lakeboat.
