Forest Whitaker’s compound in Hollywood Hills sold this winter after well over two years on and off the open market. The property, which began its run in the summer of 2017 when it surfaced on the market at $6 million, had been priced at $4.3 million prior to the sale. The Oscar-winning actor had owned the place for nearly two decades. It’s a private spot, and the lot is substantial.
There are two houses on the property: a main house of 5,641 square feet, and a guest house of 2,725. The main house is designed as a kind of stylistic amalgam, with modern, Mediterranean, and even a bit of Hollywood regency voiced in its exterior.
The home’s interiors are astonishingly liberated, beginning with a foyer that opens up to a stunning series of options, with a ceiling rising to the second floor, twin staircases, and a wrap-around upper-floor gallery all waiting behind a glassy expanse of a front entrance.
The smaller of the residential duo receives a less stylized treatment. A fireplace with tiles glazed in warm earth tones, built-ins, and a kitchen with soft blue cabinetry are a few of its details.
The acreage is park like, with a nice balance of overt grooming and engineered wildness. Shade gardens, mature trees, several meditative seating areas and lounges, and a pool and spa help fill out the 1.66 acre lot.
Whitaker’s turn as mob boss ‘Bumpy’ Johnson in EPIX’s series Godfather of Harlem has yielded critical acclaim and a broad fan base. A second season looks to be in the cards.
