Mario Bello, comfortably ensconced in ‘NCIS’ since the 2017 television season, is also now comfortably ensconced in laid-back Laurel Canyon. The actress just picked up a 2,550 square foot traditional in the stubbornly hip neighborhood for $2.67 million.
A guest house? An investment? A retreat for breathing room? The reasons for the acquisition are, of course, unknown, and in any case far less interesting than the house itself, which dates to the late 1960s, and has been renovated in an appealingly contemporary-but-not-chilly style.
The single-floor, four-bedroom house offers a streetside impression that is a little reticent and quite charming, with a pergola waiting patiently for vine, and a pair of prominent plantings giving the façade a little privacy. Out back, the property blooms in the classic SoCal manner, with a series of covered or uncovered outdoor living spaces clustered around a freeform pool.
A bit of barn inspiration has sneaked into the picture, with reclaimed wood and a track door adding a little rustic spice to the interiors. The compartmental feel has been retained through the years—no open-concept common space here—with a blazing treatment to keep the photons bouncing about. The kitchen sports subway tile and a bit of stainless, and the requisite island.
Bello’s silver screen roles include a turn as the ferocious nuclear wife in Cronenberg’s sly The History of Violence. She stars in the upcoming feature The Water Man, David Oyelowo’s directorial debut.
