In a one-two punch in the second half of December, Michelle Pfeiffer and her husband, producer David Kelly, received acceptable offers for two California properties in their portfolio.
One was the horse-friendly estate in Silicon Valley they’d owned since the 1990s. That property sold for $22 million after two years on…and off…the open market.
But the couple quietly dispensed with a SoCal property in the same two-week period, letting go of this easygoing PacPal hideaway for a little more than nine mil. The house was a fairly recently acquisition for the duo; they purchased it in the late summer of 2016, paying $8.1 million. It is next door to a house owned by billionaire Jim Crane so he was naturally interested in the elbow room.
The 1949-built home is, by turns, modern, ranch, and traditional; generally single-floor, with a two-story section at one end that might well have been a 1970s addition. Interior photos are unfortunately scant in the listing, but what can be seen suggests relaxed, unprepossessing, and form-follows-function, where the function is getting away from it all.
Details include original narrow-plank oak, a masonry fireplace, and an adequate amount of glass for providing a fine sense of continuation, as well as some very fine views of the city and ocean. Three beds, four baths, and 3,200 square feet, on a half-acre lot that features a privacy-providing wall of green on the perimeters, a pool, and a laid-back patio and sunlounge.
Pfeiffer has joined the cast of the upcoming mystery Turn of Mind. Annette Bening is also slated to appear in the film.
Crane’s real estate portfolio is extensive, and includes this Pebble Beach gem listed for $25 million—down from $38 million. The Houston Astros owner has a net worth north of $1 billion.
