Here’s a car for the hardcore extrovert in your life, the person who finds canary yellow a touch understated for a body color. The good-time Charlie who loves the limelight…and likes a forward-thinking drivetrain, too.
The wheels in question? BMW’s nuclear-margarita colored i8 Limelight Edition, a collaboration between Alcantara—the Italian company behind that soft, suede-like synthetic so prized by performance/luxury car designers—and the venerable German performance brand.
The shade sheathing this one-off is shocking, and may raise a pertinent question in and of itself: with such a paint job, are headlamps necessary? The color in the cabin is a bit more restrained, with bright yellow confined to the accents—otherwise, it’s Alcantara, and lots of it, in black. The yellow streak around the Alcantara-clad steering wheel is especially effective, raising the perceived performance of the car a notch or two.
The treatment is a cosmetic one—the drivetrain is the standard production i8’s 3-cylinder gas engine and 11.6 kWh battery driven synchronous electric motor, delivering a total of 369 horsepower, and around 50 km of all-electric range.
