Android Creator Andy Rubin Asking $24.6M for Silicon Valley Estate After $10M Price Chops

Tech entrepreneur Andy Rubin gave the price of his Silicon Valley estate another sizeable chop this week. This second price cut brings the ask down to $24.6 million.

Rubin listed the property in Woodside on the open market in January of last year, asking $34.6 million. He waited eleven months to drop the price the first time, lopping $6.7 million off the top in February of this year.

The estate is generously proportioned, an ideal primary residence; a guest house supplements the accommodations, and the grounds are extensive and provide an abundance of privacy. The main house sits behind a crescent of lawn, and is extraordinarily cultured and very tasteful—the postmodern amalgam riffs on farmhouse, ranch, Japanese, and craftsman design influences, and is dressed in the understated and affirming warmth of earth tones.

The home’s ornament comes by way of hardwood, with cherry, walnut and others offering a rich palette of wood grain and natural colors. It features a winged design, allowing for a rambling feel, and emphasizes scale whenever possible, beginning with the entrance: a glassy, two-story prologue in a turret design.

The 6,000 square footer contains six bedrooms culminating with a large master suite, but the great room is surely the heart of the home. The open-peaked cathedral ceiling’s skylights, the pair of contemporary chandelier fixtures, the substantial fireplace accent wall in black marble, and the craftsman flourishes accumulate into an enormously literate living style.

The guest house follows the lead of the main house. Other notable features of the 6.5 acres of grounds include a small vineyard and a tennis court.
