With his sprawling Orlando estate now delisted—the lavish property that includes a 31,000 square foot main house and a water park was last priced at $21.99 million, and spent over a year on the market—NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal is trying his luck on the lower end of the luxury residential property price scale.
This month, the real estate-loving O’Neal cavalierly tossed this getaway in a gated community in Ventura County, California, onto the open market with an asking price of $2.5 million. The 5,217 square footer is nestled in a little dell in the rolling hills of Bell Canyon.
The house is more or less a contemporary Tudor-style, with half-timbering, a semi-turret, and stone accents. It dates to 1990, and contains 5 bedrooms and 5 baths.
The interiors are somewhat grandiose, riffing on the palatial as they meander along, but the home is at its most convincing when it offers a look at upper-middle class suburban comfort, which it does absolutely in the master suite. Here, soothing gray frames a vaulted tongue and groove ceiling with exposed beams, a cozy sitting room with a sunny semi-rotunda nook, and a multi-pane glass door that opens onto a private terrace.
The outside living space begins and ends with the pool area, where a jacuzzi and a lounge with fire feature beckon on warm evenings, although the lot does measure in at about one acre on the nose, allowing for expansion of amenities and landscaping, as desired.
