Kate Spade’s Manhattan apartment sold this week for $5.8 million. The late fashion designer purchased the property two decades ago for $2.7 million. It was listed in June of this year with an asking price of $6.4 million.

The ‘classic 8’ co-op apartment features 3,000 square feet of interiors; 3 bedrooms, a kitchen with large butler’s pantry, and a library are included in the layout. The living style is warm but very literate, and manages that delicate balance of familiarity and authentic individuality that is so hard to sustain.

The shared living area feels very open, and features a fireplace, plentiful glass, and multiple sets of French doors, which demarcate, and offer a potent sense of transition. There’s a bit of whimsical urbanity remaining from Ms. Spade’s ownership tenure, most notably in the creative workspace/library receiving a dashing treatment of intense red.

Ms. Spade, who passed away last year, launched several brands, including Frances Valentine.
