Retired MLB first baseman and outfielder Nick Swisher and his wife, actress JoAnna Garcia, purchased a Beverly Hills residence last month for $5.95 million.

The property’s initial asking price was a rose-colored $11.5 million when it first hit the market in 2016. A steady succession of reductions and re-lists followed, leaving the price at $6.45 million when it resurfaced on the market this September.

The house dates to the mid-1960s, and combines French-style pretension with high-dollar American suburban sensibilities. The stucco exterior is accented with a bay window, a Juliet balcony, and shutters, and rises to a hipped roofline.

The 3-bed, 6,625 square footer begins with stone front steps and a gated wrought-iron privacy wall. Within, it quickly blossoms into understated warmth, with plank oak and a staircase rising within the 2-story foyer to a second-floor gallery.

The living room features a magnificent French fireplace, with French doors that open to the exterior living area. A wood-paneled library with built-ins and a very open kitchen accented with granite countertops and exposed beams. The family room boasts a wet bar, and another set of French doors that open to the nearly 1.1-acre outdoor space, where a freeform pool and spa are nestled against a hillside for a very secluded feel.

Swisher and Garcia tied the knot in 2010.
