BMW announced a major teaser this week: a closer look at the M2 CS, or Coupe Sport. The racing model variant of the M2 is light, potent, and boasts a rarity nowadays: a stick.
The M2 CS follows the M4 CS that entered production in 2017. The M4 CS bested the M4 Competition’s horsepower rating by about 10%, delivering up to 460, and was limited to 3,000 examples.
The M2 CS isn’t far from the mark when it comes to the M4 CS’s power, with 444 HP on tap; again, that’s about a 10% boost over the Competition. It’s an incredibly nimble looking ride, and with the 6-speed manual gearbox it should be a blast to take to the track.
There’s quite a bit of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic in the M2 CS—the roof and aero components are all made of the lightweight hybrid material, and it may be optioned for the hood as well. The exhaust is a specially designed dual-branch system with electronically controlled valves and twin pipes; suspension is standard M Adaptive, and the M2 CS includes the M Active differential as well.
BMW is limiting the M2 CS to 2,200 units. Pricing hasn’t yet been announced.
