Doobie Brothers alum Michael McDonald listed his Maui retreat this month, setting the asking price at $3.9 million. The property features a favorable design for a family escape, or a homeowner interested in taking on a long-term tenant: a connected main house and cottage, with abundant utility space. McDonald has owned it since 2011, according to public records.

The two homes on the property collectively span some 2,500 square feet of interiors. The main house is a single-story with 3 bedrooms and a generously proportioned covered lanai. Gently vaulted ceilings and warm cherry wood plank floors run throughout the home. The open shared living area and the master suite are both very appealing; the former boasts plentiful glass with ocean views, and the latter a set of glass doors that open onto a private terrace.

The cottage layout includes 2 bedrooms, as well as a second, smaller lanai. A workshop and a storage space are also featured in the layout. The two private and lushly landscaped acres with views of the mountains are exquisite, of course, and sell the property all by themselves. Coconut palms and tropical fruit trees are highlights of the landscaping.

McDonald was a key member of the Doobie Brothers in the late 1970s and early 1980s. His most recent studio record is ‘Season of Peace: The Christmas Collection’; the album was released last year.
