BMW’s 2020 2 Series Gran Coupe was revealed this month ahead of the L.A. Auto Show. The 8 Series version was revealed last spring, restoring the upper end of the performance line, and the company may be using certain design language cues broadly to express lower end cars.
Because the 2 Series Gran Coupe, especially from the front, bears the genetics of the 8 Series. It suggests a similar grace as its elder sibling as its lines move from front to back, and its rear sports even more brevity.
The model will be available as a 228i xDrive, loaded with a 2L I4 that makes up to 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, but ponying up for the M235i version enlarges the turbo and gives the engine a few structural tweaks and the additional cooling it will need to deliver its 301 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque.
The cabin features an 8.8” touchscreen for its infotainment system, although a 10.25” touchscreen is available at an additional cost, as well as a 10.25” digital instrument cluster. The model variants will be available in the first half of next year.
