San Diego Padres third baseman Manny ‘Macho Manny’ Machado may go to work in SoCal, but he’s landed himself a serious bargain in South Florida real estate. The glassy contemporary build boasts 121 feet of direct frontage on Biscayne Bay, and extends to slightly more than 8,300 square feet.

The house had spent just over three years on the market at the time of the sale to Machado. It initially listed at $22 million, but a steady series of price cuts over the intervening years left it at $13.4 million prior to the sale. When the dust had settled, Machado paid $11.3 million for the place, according to public records. A few weeks later, it went up for rent at $30K/month.

The 1994-built beastie extends to three floors—the top two floors are walled in glass on the seaward side to take best advantage of the location, and a quartet of cupolas offering a landscape panorama.

The interiors are otherwise modern and airy, with the wide-open common area featuring a ceiling extending to the top of the structure. Limestone, white walls and ceilings, abundant space, and glass combine into an ethereal living style; in the master suite, the effect is incredibly ebullient.

The six-bedroom, eight-bath home’s list of amenities begins and ends with its majestic frontage on the bay, but also includes an elevator, library, and wet bar. The plentiful exterior living space incorporates a pool, patios, outdoor dining with grille station, and large front lawn in about eight-tenths of an acre.

This year, Machado signed a ten-year contract with San Diego. His remuneration? A then-record $300 million.
