At the one-year anniversary of the listing, restaurateur Michael Chow gave a chop to his custom mansion in Holmby Hills this month, trimming back the ask to $69.975 million. The nine-bedroom home has been on the market since October of 2018, when it appeared with a $78 million price tag.
Chow didn’t mince around with half measures when imagining the house. He took his primary inspiration from the Reina Sofia museum in Madrid, and employed reclaimed materials to fit the composition: 400-year-old columns, Florentine frescoes from the renaissance are among the materials used to express the living style.
The home extends to a whopping 31,000 square feet, and all roads lead to a central courtyard atrium. Standout spaces include the library and salon. In the library, a bright travertine fireplace is set off dramatically by ebony paneling. The salon features wood paneling as well, and an ornate chandelier.
A spiral staircase, outdoor loggia, rooftop pavilion, home theater and wine cellar are a few other features of the home, which was some seven years in the making when it was completed in 2006.
