Forest Whitaker Asking $4.3M for Hollywood Hills Compound, Down From $6M

The two houses that make up Forest Whitaker’s compound in Los Angeles are both interesting, even remarkable. The lot is private, lush, and quite large. And the property has seen a recent price cut that represents a nearly 30% reduction from the initial ask.

Whitaker, the actor best known for his insightful leads in ‘Lee Daniels’ The Butler’ and ‘Last King of Scotland,’ began marketing the estate almost two years ago, asking $6 million for it. Over the course of the intervening years, the price has been on a bit of a roller-coaster ride, sinking as low as $3.5 million. The fall of 2019 leaves it at $4.295 million.

The homes are located in a quiet nook north of Hollywood Hills. Each house has its own private, gated entrance. The main house on the lot is a 4,700 square-footer with an eccentric sense of style; the exterior architecture mixes Spanish, modern, and even a little Hollywood Regency style. The interiors don’t wait to make an impression: the foyer is the great room, with a double-height ceiling, a double staircase with decorative balustrade, and a four-sided gallery above.

There are four bedrooms in the main house, and five in the secondary residence, which dates to 1992, and measures around 2,500 square feet overall. It features an open shared living area, an earth-tone tile fireplace, and a fitness room.

The two properties are linked by a large, leafy, extremely private outdoor living area, with patios, a pool, walking paths, and a distinct and refreshing lack of engineered landscaping. A romantically disparate property, from beginning to end.

Whitaker took home a Best Actor Oscar in 2007, for ‘The Last King of Scotland.’ He currently stars in the EPIX series ‘Godfather of Harlem.’
