After a long wait, Aston Martin took to Audrain’s Newport Concours in Rhode Island this month to reveal its most recent collaboration with longtime design partner, Italian coachbuilder Zagato: the DBS GT Zagato.
The two companies have a long history of working together—over half a century—but their collective efforts in the past few years have rendered some of the most beautiful cars of this century.
Not surprising, then, that each new entry in the Aston/Zagato story is highly anticipated by industry watchers and car collectors alike. This latest feast for the senses begins where the DBS Superleggera, which was first unveiled last year, ends.
The DBS GT Zagato packs the Superleggera’s 5.2L V12 biturbo producing about 750 horsepower, up from 715 in the Superleggera. The body include a broad grille which swallows the Superleggera intakes, narrower headlamps, larger rear bumper, and blacked-out rear light strip.
The DBS GT Zagato is also more cosmetically daring than any other Aston Martin Zagato we’ve seen, with a glossy carbon fiber roof, Supernova Red paint, solid 18K gold badging, gold anodized trim and wheel nuts, and—most interestingly—three-dimensional printed metal and carbon interior finishes inside the cabin.
The DBS GT Zagato will only be sold as one half of a matched set. The other car? A DB4 GT Zagato Continuation. The price for the package registers at a substantial six million GBP, or about $7.4 million at current rates of exchange.
