Bang & Olufsen’s newest addition to the Beosound family is the Beosound 1 New York Edition.

B&O introduced the Beosound 1 speakers at about this time last year, so the entry is a good way for the company to keep the nifty modern Google Assistant-enabled sound reproduction unit in full view. Like its siblings, the New York Beosound 1 is a shimmering aluminum speaker with a unique conical shape that allows for room-filling sound from any position. An elegant design, and a carefully conceived one.

The New York Edition of the model features a graduated finish that is intended to suggest the Gotham skyline. Citing typical Danish modern philosophy, the suggestion is present only as an abstraction—the black of the base rising into metal like a skyscraper rising up from the shadows of terra firma.

The visual effect was difficult to achieve, involving polishing and anodizing of the casing; the result is uniquely sculptural, as well as functional. But that’s in keeping for Bang & Olufsen.
