Back in June, Bowlus’ ‘Endless Highways’ appeared, conjuring visions of escape into the mythology of the American summertime road. The recreational trailer designer and builder is closing out the season with the ‘Endless Highways Wave’, adding the romance of escape by water to the formula.

As the original company’s founder, W.H. Bowlus, was an aircraft designer who branched out into travel trailers, the Wave edition of the model is a comprehensive symbol of the golden age of travel, when air, sea and road offered variations on the same theme: discovery and exploration of the world, and of the self in relation to it. Great writers D.H. Lawrence, Paul Bowles, Isaac Dinesen, Elizabeth Bishop and Jack Kerouac were all travel writers, chasing the horizon where the most authentic self resides. And it is this restless spirit that the reborn Bowlus is tapping into with their series of trailers.

Naturally, the company is faring well.

The new trailer offered by the company is its most ambitious evocation, and a bit of a departure. The nautical-themed Endless Highways trades some of the simplicity of the original for a more stylized interior approach. Deck-like plank flooring suggests yacht, liner, even Chris-Craft. Blue and white are the colors used, and an analog barometer, thermometer, and hygrometer are décor flourishes.

With its more complex overall sensibility, the Endless Highways Wave comes with a higher price: $225K, about $40K pricier than the Endless Highways.
