This spring, NHL player Brad Richardson set a goal for himself: to be ensconced in the California coastal lifestyle by summer. The endeavor was accomplished two days before the solstice, when he scored this contemporary in the so-called ‘Sand Section’ of Hermosa Beach for $2 million.
At only a block or two away from the ocean, the residence is well placed. As is the coastal custom, the house is jammed into an 1,100 square-foot parcel; it packs in its 1,300 square feet of interiors vertically, but the available space is managed well, and through careful design never feels cramped.
The second-floor common living space is open-concept, and quite warm—teak cabinetry in the kitchen, a stacked stone fireplace, natural-toned plank maple floors and stair treads, and tongue-in-groove ceilings give the living style an upscale-casual appeal. The staircase balustrade brings a bit of industrial luxe to the mix.
But the location, of course, is the essential context of the living style, and the home makes best use of it via a retractable glass wall that opens broadly to a second-floor terrace. The house is a two-and-two, with a bed and bath on each floor.
Richardson has played for the Arizona Coyotes since 2015. He’s also enjoyed stints with the Canucks and the Kings.
