The endless summer may only exist in the mythologies of surfers and schoolchildren, but Ferrari is doing its best to extend the spirit of the season for as long as possible in 2019.

This month, the company rolled out the second spectacular drop-top we’ve been treated to by the Maranello gang this summer. And, between the two warm-weather rides, the F8 Spider may be the prettiest. But the 812 GTS—a version of the Superfast with a retractable roof panel—puts enormous power and the pleasures of an open top together in the same package, and gets the prize for most intense.

Ferrari proudly declares the 789-HP car to be the most powerful convertible currently in production. The arrival of the production model is auspicious not only for that reason (and for the enjoyment of hearing to its sonorous V12 in action more clearly); the 812 GTS is actually the first front-mounted V12 convertible model Ferrari’s made in half a century, so its appearance marks a return to an exquisite form long in abeyance.

Beefing up the chassis to compensate for the convertible design has added about 165 pounds to the model’s weight, but Ferrari assures that the gain doesn’t affect the Superfast performance profile. The car can reach 62 MPH in less than 3 seconds.

Pricing and delivery times TBA.
