Government tax dollars were put to work purchasing this Manhattan penthouse. The U.S. government dropped a pretty penny on the 37th-floor unit, which will serve as the residence to the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. The current acting ambassador is Jonathan Cohen, who surely won’t be disappointed about his new $16 million digs.

Located at 50 United Nations Plaza, the luxurious penthouse sold at a discount of roughly $8.4 million less than the original asking price. The condo spans an entire floor and boasts five bedrooms and 6.5 baths, in addition to two staff bedrooms.

Possibly the unit’s most luxurious feature is the massive great room-style main gathering space blending the living room, dining room, and library. The large area wows with large floor-to-ceiling glass windows offering views of the East River and the midtown skyline.
