Pierce Brosnan’s newest real estate investment—or investment in Pacific coast-lifestyle relaxation—is this charming period cottage in Santa Monica. The actor paid $2.945 million for the home against a $2.995 million ask set when the property was listed last month.
Brosnan made the seller happy, then, but fared quite well himself. The house is a 1941-built charmer that’s been comprehensively overhauled, and it’s situated in a particularly desirable corner of the quiet seaside city.
A streetside impression reveals a classically homey SoCal tract house. Hedges border the front walk, along with lawn and mature trees. A raised brick planter frames the living room bay window with a bit of ebullient tropical landscaping.
Updates were conducted in the not too distant past. Natural-toned oak plank, off-white walls and ceilings, and recessed lighting distinguish the somewhat compartmentalized interiors. A marble fireplace is capped with a molded frieze embellishment and a simple mantel, and skylights illuminate here and there. The kitchen and two of the baths are a bit on the beige side, speaking 90’s design language fluently.
The four bedrooms and 3 baths culminate in a master that receives a good-sized chunk of the 2,319 square feet of living area. Its access hall is bright and airy, and links it to a small office; a walk-in closet and a bath boasting green marble and a skylight completes the suite; the bedroom opens broadly onto the property exterior via French doors, where a privacy wall offers secluded outdoor dining and lounging.
Brosnan began his career playing a vocationally well-adjusted IRA assassin in the seminal U.K. gangland classic ‘The Long Good Friday’; some time thereafter, he portrayed a spy licensed to kill. More recently roles include last year’s ‘Spinning Man’, and next year’s ‘The Misfits.’
