Poland-based Carlex Design may employ the most obsessive craftspeople in the car-tuning niche. Examples of their work show extraordinary custom details; their less auspicious projects and packages come off as brazenly plush, and their ‘Jewelry Cars’ are downright dazzling. Perhaps no other tuning shop offers vehicle customization options so specifically marketed to the collector.

The company’s latest takes on one of the preeminent historical luxury car marques: Maybach. Carlex’s expansion of the aristocratic appeal of the Mercedes-Maybach S650—one of only a handful of perfect executive rides on the road today—doesn’t leave much to the imagination. It’s an unabashed and decidedly unsubtle enhancement, one that gilds the lily in a big way.

The jet-black exterior is the ideal foil for the celebration of disposable income contained within. The gold—or, depending on your taste, rose gold—inserts have been getting all the press since the Carlex Maybach appeared. And, indeed, those seeing it in the flesh should be advised to don shades before gazing upon this glistening doubloon of an interior.

No changes to power; but, then, the Maybach’s native V12 beastie should be able to provide adequate thrust.
