Fledgling Bay Area EV design company Drako Motors showed up at The Quail gathering at Pebble Beach this year with a treat: a 1,200-HP sport sedan.

Drako calls the model the GTE, and it looks very capable indeed. The car’s top speed is 206 MPH, but that impressive number is actually somewhat less interesting than the mechanical and technological research freighted by the car.

Drako states that the GTE is the result of over a decade of R&D. It looks it. The fledgling company’s design includes an unusual degree of driver control to account for efficiency, conditions, and overall performance: mode, power deployment, torque vectoring, and regenerative braking.

Possessed of British grand tourer lines outside, the GTE’s powertrain is made up of four motors—one for each wheel, and each with its own gearbox—and not the V12 it looks born to bear beneath its bonnet. The car’s performance profile looks to be thrillingly acute, if the torque vectoring system is any indication…it can adjust the amount carried by each wheel more than 1,000 times every second. The 90-kWh battery is supported by a 15-kW charger.

There are 25 GTEs planned for production. The model’s base price is $1.25 million.
