When it was introduced last winter, Bugatti’s Divo raised eyebrows in the industry for its stunning good looks, astonishing power…and $5.8 million price tag. Custom builds by the company come with bullish prices; a couple of months after the Divo was revealed, Bugatti showed off its one-off La Voiture Noire, which was made for a Bugatti enthusiast, and priced at an enthusiastic $12.5 million.

Part of the pricing is exclusivity strategizing, so the $9 million sticker on the company’s newest model—the Centodieci—doesn’t ruffle as readily as it otherwise might. Bugatti sold many a Chiron at $3 million, and the Divo nearly doubled down. And this is a limited production model, with only ten examples forthcoming. If the pricing does ruffle, however, don’t despair: all ten examples are already sold.

And, with good reason. For passionate collectors and/or extrovert buyers, the contemporary Bugatti is perhaps the most desirable car in the world at present. The Centodieci is the newest expression of the brand, and it breaks new ground in appearance as it increases the power and potential speed thrills possible for a street-legal machine: 1577 horsepower, and a 0-124 MPH time of 6.1 seconds on the way to a 236 MPH top speed.

The name is Italian for ‘110’, an homage to an optimistic 1980’s revival of the company by Romano Artioli, an Italian exotic car dealer who eventually also briefly owned Lotus. The model that resulted from the short-lived venture was the EB110, although only 16 were produced before this initial rebooting of Bugatti folded and faded into history.
