British racecar manufacturer Radical Sportscars recently showed off its new Rapture road-legal sports car. It currently holds the spot of most stylized new exotic to appear in 2019.
Radical debuted the Rapture at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it raised the eyebrows, one would venture, of more than a few industry insiders. It was designed specifically for European markets in order to meet the UK’s Individual Vehicle Approval standards. And, in its natural habitat, it’s guaranteed to earn more than its share of double-takes.
That is, of course, if onlookers have time to catch a glimpse. The vehicle’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo-four engine produces 350 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque. The considerable power, and the lightweight build, make the Rapture very quick indeed: it can sprint from zero to 60 mph in about 3.0 seconds.
The new car blends styling and build cues from race cars with the functionality of a street-legal supercar. Even though Rapture was designed for the streets, the vehicle’s FIA-spec safety cell and crash structure, and advanced aerodynamics, augment the race-car feel. The cabin is plush, but track-oriented: witness the two molded racing seats fitted with multi-point harnesses.
Pricing information for Radical Sportscars’ road-legal Rapture is forthcoming.
