Very early last year, Thomas Tull listed his expansive estate in greater Los Angeles area for sale. The asking price was $85 million.
It took a year for Tull to sell the place, but sell it he did, this month, for a price that proved the initial asking price of January 2018 extravagantly optimistic. When all was said and done, the home changed hands for $35 million. The sale still set a record for Ventura County.
The property—which is situated in Thousand Oaks—is comprised of multiple properties purchased by Tull over several years. The largest of them last sold for $19 million, according to public records, in 2011. The existing structures were revised or razed in favor of a majestic, grandiose French chateau and grounds.
The result is spectacular. Interior living space measures in at an astonishing 50,000 square feet, and there are 12 bedrooms and nearly 20 baths on the property. The main residence receives 32,000 square feet, with a 5,000 square-foot master that includes one of the largest master baths in any home.
Other notable features of the 16. 3-acre property include an 11,000 square foot guest house, a 2,650 square-foot pool house, two pools, a 5-acre organic farm, and a sound-proof home cinema with a 20’ screen.
Tull co-founded production company Legendary Pictures in 2000. The company has produced some of the most popular blockbusters of the last two decades, including last year’s ‘Jurassic’ entry, which earned $1.3 billion worldwide at the box office.
