TV writer and producer Kenya Barris recenlty dropped $7.55 million on a very contemporary Los Angeles-area home.
The Encino new construction spans 9,600 square feet. First listed at $9 million, the undeniably modern residence saw a number of price cuts over the year prior to Barris’ purchase.
The “Black-ish” creator was likely drawn to the home’s glass facade, which opens to a striking double-height foyer. A floating staircase with a bit of ambient lighting set the tone of the home as absolutely contemporary; an in-wall fireplace, characteristically adventurous chandelier, and poured concrete set the reticent mood.
Further inside is a spacious living room flanked with floor-to-ceiling glass panels; the open-concept living space flows seamlessly to an airy gourmet kitchen with minimalist cabinetry, massive center island, and Gaggenau and Wolf appliances. A wall of glass panels open from the kitchen to the patio complete with an outdoor kitchen and a firepit.
The “backyard” is certainly designed for entertaining, but it isn’t a traditional space. A beautiful deck, loggias, a negative-edge swimming pool, and a sports court fill out the exterior living space.
