Michelle Obama had a short stay recently in the so-called Shark House. The contemporary home—which has a built-in aquarium populated with diminutive sharks—is currently for sale for $23 million.
No word on the cost for a weekend swimming—or occasionally observing, anyway—a nearly 13,000 square-foot contemporary with an on-site staff of primeval memento mori. And, no word on whether or not the former First Lady was testing the waters against a potential future purchase, or merely taking a quick dip in the refreshing pool of novelty.
The exterior of the seven-bed, 12-bath home is thoroughly contemporary, with the poured concrete and timber opposition establishing a balance in the exterior. No surprise that it’s a recent build—dating to just last year—boasting a display of luxe surface and emotional reticence to prove it.
Flashy, very pretty, and understated but for scale and blue-ribbon uber-trophy extroversion, the slick pad unfolds within as a fairly warm living style, with wide-plank natural-toned hardwood keeping things down to earth. LED accent lighting runs throughout the home for atmosphere, and the wide-open spaces feel vaguely unlimited, but the home’s most compelling feature is its centerpiece staircase, a classic execution with substantial block treads and a glass balustrade.
The home’s exterior spaces include a pool and sunlounge. The views from the large master terrace are marvelous.
