The former La Jolla home of legendary sportscaster Dick Enberg is now available for $9.8 million.
The San Diego-area home is located a few blocks from the beach, but boasts a French-chateau-style look that looks like a cultural departure from the laid-back lifestyle. Enberg—who purchased the land in 1999—had the residence custom built to his taste and ideal living style.
Spanning 8,576 square feet, the five-bedroom estate features stunning 16th-century antiques. Surprises come thick and fast, and reclaimed materials are used liberally. Each room is an artistic statement on its own, accented with high-end woods and marble, wood paneling, and even murals.
The kitchen features a statement-making scalloped brick ceiling, as well as a singular tile floor; the formal living room especially stands out with antique wooden beams, a large window, and a grand central fireplace. The luxury feel of the home is sustained with specialized billiards room and wine cellar; the latter features a stone barrel ceiling in a classic French ‘caves’ design.
The residence’s detailed aesthetic and entertainment-friendly setup continues in the backyard with an outdoor kitchen and a swimming pool. The lot is small, but the landscaping is expert, and highlights seclusion with a border of shrubs, hedges and mature trees.
Enberg passed away in 2017, after six decades on the air.
