Comic book author and “Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman recently listed his mansion in Coronado for $6.3 million.
There’s a lot of homey in this home, and a little irony if you look for it. Such a soothing, meditative atmosphere for penning zombie-apocalypse carnage! The 3,461-square-foot Craftsman-style is light and airy with an inviting, beach-cottage aesthetic. Its facade features decorative flourishes that include a stained-glass eyebrow dormer and an extended eve.
The interiors are nautical-inspired cottage style. The indoor-outdoor living room flows seamlessly to the gourmet kitchen; the latter is a beaut, albeit heavy-handed, checkerboard tile backsplash, and yellow, soft green, and soft blue blending with retro appliances. Throughout, tongue-and-groove ceilings heighten the overall effect.
The house was built only a decade ago, but classic features like walnut floors, paneled walls, and six fireplaces all contribute to a heady sense of timelessness and comforting familiarity. High-end features continue through to all four bedrooms, including the master suite with its vaulted and beamed ceilings.
Kirkman purchased the San Diego-area charmer for $6.1 million about four years ago.
