A one-time home of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston—and also, interestingly, actor Fredric March—has come up for sale in Beverly Hills. The property is asking $49 million.
March had the home custom built in the mid-1930s; he hired legendary L.A.-area architect Wallace Neff to design it. The house that resulted is a French Tudor by way of Southern California; the back of the home features a partial covered second-floor balcony in the Monterey Colonial style.
The home’s interiors have been heavily renovated. The living style that is expressed in this home is extremely slick: urbane, literate, unabashedly luxurious, and creatively diverse, its contrivances are nicely hidden.
Lots of flash here, and a fairly broad variety of design sensibilities are represented, but it all seems to work. The screening room is rendered as a convivial social spot; a protected fireplace, hardwood floors, and exposed beam raised ceiling is suffused in warmth; the kitchen’s classic checkerboard tile floor is augmented with subway tiled walls, marble countertops, black cabinetry, and it extends to a small dayroom with a fireplace in a marble accent wall.
The home’s five bedrooms and nine baths culminate in a master suite that features an original French-style limestone fireplace, and a lovely walk-in closet and dressing room; the unique shelving unit and wardrobe display may be accessed with a rail ladder. The master bath features a sculpted ceiling with a skylight, and an arched shower entry.
The property extends to 1.2 acres. Along the way, it fits in a pool, an outdoor living area with a fireplace, a tennis court, and a contemporary-style guest house.
The ex-couple bought the home in 2001 and sold it five years later after their split.
