Rockstar Mike Dirnt recently placed his Bay Area villa on the market for $6.8 million.
The Green Day co-founder and bassist purchased the 1927-built home in Piedmont, California, for $5.85 million in 2016. Renovations have left it altered to taste, of course, but period details still shine through. Original tile, plank oak, French doors and windows, staircase with wrought-iron balustrade, and fireplaces are all charming features of the home.
Spanning 6,712 square feet, the California Mediterranean-style manse beautifully incorporates classic and contemporary styles. The five-bedroom, 5.5-bath home stuns with a combination of white walls, large windows, several arches, and mid-tone hardwood floors throughout. The formal living room is especially impressive with its intricately beamed ceiling, central fireplace, and a massive bank of floor-to-ceiling windows.
A few striking contrasts are evident. The dining room looks positively Gothic, with a stark, glass-topped table putting a contemporary spin on a very moody space indeed. But the kitchen is not quite so rocker-chic, with white cabinetry, light gray countertops, stainless steel appliances, and a large eat-in center island setting a more comfortably familial tone.
Outdoor living spaces look disarmingly lovely, with a fire pit, a large patio, walking paths, and a swimming pool with a spa all nestled within carefully crafted landscaping.
