Chinese-born Hong Kong filmmaker John Woo recently sold his Los Angeles-area home for $5.4 million.
Woo—who is best known for directing movies like “Mission: Impossible II,” “A Better Tomorrow,” and “Red Cliff”—originally hoped to receive more than $7.5 million for the Pacific Palisades property. But the home spent about a year on the market, and enough was enough.
The 4,500-square-footer is located in the high-end Riviera neighborhood. The residence’s exterior architecture voices Spanish, tradition, and contemporary design cues.
The four-bedroom, 5.5-bath house’s white walls make it a blank canvas for its new owner. The interiors are rambling and airy, with sculpted details including a staircase balustrade, and ceiling and wall flourishes. The living room receives soaring cathedral ceiling, fireplace, and French doors leading to the backyard.
A spacious patio and lap pool for cooling down on a hot day, a guesthouse, tile and brick, and privacy hedges define the lot.
Woo’s upcoming film “The Killer” is an English language remake of the 1989 flick by the same name, and features Lupita Nyong’o. The reboot’s writers may include Brian Helgeland, who wrote “L.A. Confidential.”
