Michigan-based tuner Mil-Spec is living up to its name, and putting the Hummer H1 back on the road.
No, the Hummer is not headed back into production. But the restomod specialist did find 12 units to customize.
Mil-Spec makes it their mission to develop creative builds. And, if your automotive tastes veer into four-wheeled militaria or cushy-comfort survivalist rides, their Launch Edition line of 12 bespoke Hummers certainly fits the bill.
Each of the reimagined Hummers is built-to-order for the buyer. The most recently completed model was used for the photo portfolio below. It set the driver back exactly $295,039…but it’s far from anything that used to roll off the General Motor’s production floor.
Completely re-imagined from the inside out, the customized H1 appears military-ready on the outside but is fitted with plenty of high-end finishes inside. Starting with the body, Mil-Spec replaced the standard body panels with aerospace-grade aluminum versions and added a new aluminum floorpan. The all-black exterior look is carried inside the cabin with a blend of Tough Duck marine-grade canvas, leather, and vinyl flooring. One of the most impressive updates is the inclusion of a padded headliner to reduce ambient sounds from under the hood.
The Mi-Spec H1 is powered by a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine, so there’s a lot of power on tap: 500 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet of torque.
Mil-Spec is planning on delivering all 12 examples by 2020.
