Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney is selling Ballintober, his coastal Maryland estate. The nine-acre estate in the upscale enclave of Saint Michaels is anchored by a sprawling farmhouse mansion that dates to 1930. It was last listed at $2.5 million and is in pending status.
The three-bedroom main home’s exterior is classically traditional, with a steeply-pitched roof, a long, two-floor layout, dormer windows, and a pediment entry. The architecture is elegantly simple, and quite unpretentious.
There are two other structures on the property; all told, there are five bedrooms and 4.5 baths. The guest house contains a bedroom, an open living area, a small kitchen, and a fairly large workshop or studio space. Finally, there is a one-bedroom apartment over the three-car garage. All told, there are just shy of 5,000 square feet of living space on the property. The nine acres constitute the living style of this home, though.
The property’s acreage is bucolic, open, and just shy of wild. It begins with a gated entrance guarded by a pair of whitewashed brick pilasters. A tree-lined drive meanders, with lawns and pasture opening up on both sides, and revealing Chesapeake Bay in the near distance.
Formal gardens, walking paths, a large, rose-clad pergola, and a smattering of mature trees give the property a very secluded feel. A lengthy deep-water dock juts out into the Bay, and culminates in a covered meditation spot.
