Bae Se Hwa‘s striking Steam Bent seating collection is now on display in New York City.

The South Korean designer’s series of complex pieces first made waves at Design Miami in 2010. Since then, viewings of the collection have been quite limited. The line has never been displayed publicly with all the pieces together.

This exhibit will be Bae Se Hwa’s first solo exhibition. The artist relies on a carefully crafted creative process in order to translate feelings of tranquility into his seating. The pieces express a fluidity and sense of natural progression that is soothing…and very beautiful. The sculptural seats and benches are intended to embody a harmonious spirit.

Due to the intensity of the creation process, and the labor involved in manipulating the strips of walnut, the artist only creates a few pieces each year.

Interested visitors can see seven of Bae Se Hwa’s beautiful creations on display at R & Company in NYC. The exhibition runs until May 11th.
