The former Hollywood Hills home of Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio recently sold for $2.727 million.
The American actress and baseball star rented the residence during their short time together. A 1953-dated rent check from Monroe for $237 is associated with the property; thankfully for the recent seller, the home is worth quite a bit more, and changed hands for an offer that was $30,000 over the original asking price.
The 1938-built Los Angeles-area estate has undergone several renovations, but none has disturbed the spirit of the original. The exterior is Mediterranean in style, and the interior space is charmingly eclectic and occasionally surprising, with beamed ceilings, white walls, and a blend of classic features including plentiful original tile.
The four-bed, 4.5-bath home spans 3,335 square feet, and features a spacious central living space with a brick fireplace and three French doors leading out to a terrace with terracotta tiling. The moderately sized kitchen stands out with a center island, wrought-iron rails, and beautiful custom tile work.
The exterior is private and even secretive; the swimming pool and spa surrounded by lush greenery and mature trees is indicative of the living style. A spectacular villa with a unique history.
