Jenny Craig’s Del Mar beachfront is back on the market, with a substantial price cut. The property hit the market with an initial ask of nearly $40 million; the most recent trim leaves it at a considerably more svelte $29.5 million.
The trophy home is a lifestyle statement in and of itself. The architecture conforms to a central outdoor courtyard-like space that is dominated by a large pool: symbol of leisure and arrival. The interiors amble amiably through over 7,600 square feet of living space, and employ extravagant transitions, including graceful outdoor colonnades flanking the pool, and a sculptural spiral staircase in the open concept shared living space.
Cottage design elements keep the place from spinning off into grandiosity; it’s amazing what a tongue-and-groove ceiling can do. The interiors appeal as unpretentious generally, and keep to the familiar and warm, and the greater context of setting: abundant glass takes in water views at every opportunity.
There are five bedrooms and seven baths, all told. The master suite gets a substantial chunk of the second floor, and features a fireplace, a small sitting area, a private balcony, and an adequate master bath. The home’s outdoor terrace takes the prize, though. Floored in stone tile, it meanders the length of the home, and describes parties past and parties future in a first impression glance.
Jenny Craig and late husband Sid created her namesake nutrition, fitness and weight loss program in 1983. Nestle acquired the company in 2006 for a reported $600 million.
