Vice Media founder Shane Smith has definitively sold his pied-a-terre duplex in Tribeca. The unit had been asking a sanguine $5.85 million when it went on the market last October.
Well, the condo is a beaut, anyway—if you’re enamored of the warm, post-industrial brick-timber-and-iron authenticity of a classic Tribeca loft—and has that classic, carefully composed bohemian insouciance that may be very familiar, but will still charm the pants off most. Original posts and beams, plentiful brick, original floors, and exposed plumbing and electrical accumulate into an earthy expression that’s as appealing as comfort food.
The place measures 3,200 square feet, and is a four-and-four…although one of the bedrooms is a tight fit. The wide-open shared living space features a kitchen with soft, pale blue cabinetry, and the color makes for an effective contrast with the exposed and unpainted red brick.
Upstairs, the brick has received a whitewash, which opens up the feel of the floor nicely. The bedrooms culminate in a master that features a raised sleeping area, and a bath with unusually striking black-and-white tile.
Smith stepped down as CEO of Vice Media last spring. His main residence remains Villa Ruchello, a $20+ million estate in Santa Monica that filmmaker Henry Jaglom once called home.
