Heavy-metal shredder Kirk Hammett recently sliced the asking price for his 1926-built San Francisco home to $11.9 million. The guitarist originally listed the Bay Area home last summer, when he priced it at $13 million. He paid $8 million for the home, though, so he’s still set to make a good return on his investment.

The property is located in an affluent enclave, and is actually one of two adjacent residential properties originally owned by Hammett in the neighborhood. He sold the other in March of last year, for $12.8 million against a $16 million ask.

As for the remaining home, it stretches to 5,200 square feet, and contains four bedrooms and 4.5 baths. It features an extravagant period foyer with an elegant curving staircase, and a large living room with a wall of windows looking out to the Pacific Ocean.

The residence features a nice balance of classic and updated accents, and a few surprises…including a cool green bathroom. Casement windows offer broad Pacific views, and the spacious kitchen is completely updated with white cabinetry, granite countertops, a large island, stainless steel appliances, and a breakfast nook.

The home’s balcony and terrace spaces offer views of Lands End, China Beach, and the Marin Headlands. A few scraggly coastal conifers add a little Gothic to the mix, blending well with the home, and the tastes of its Gothic-film fan owner.

Kirk Hammett joined Metallica in 1983. The band’s gone on to sell over 125 million albums worldwide.
