About a year ago, Matt Damon entered into a contract to buy the penthouse in the luxury condo development The Standish in Brooklyn Heights. The sale finalized just before the New Year, and the unit traded hands for $16.745 million, making it the most expensive sale in Brooklyn to date.

In an earlier life, The Standish was The Standish Arms Hotel; the building dates to 1905, and features a façade that expresses a century flush with novelty, one that had yet to see the Spanish ‘flu or a world war. The conversion was completed in 2017. There are currently no units for sale in the building.

Developer DDG was the creative and financial force behind the transformation; the company’s other projects include 345meatpacking. Their buildings express optimism and an artistic sensibility, finding their ‘flash’ in architectural relevance and iconoclasm. DDG paid $60 million for the building in 2014, embarking on a renovation that is distinguished by a tasteful approach to luxury residential Gotham living.

The PH unit now owned by Mr. Damon extends from the eleventh floor into the 12th, and spans 6,218 square feet. The materials, fixtures and appliances all reflect the simple aesthetic of the interiors, which find expression in subtle textures, muted earth tones, and natural light.

Damon’s upcoming film roles include a leading part in James Mangold’s ‘Ford v. Ferrari’; the film is slated for release early next summer.
