Film executive Scott Bernstein is moving straight out of Los Feliz in the new year. The nearly century-old residence was designed by architect Charles Gault, the same architect who designed the “Mulholland Drive” Hancock Park Il Borghese estate.
The “Straight Outta Compton” producer sold the villa for $4.25 million. Bernstein originally paid $2.46 million for the Spanish-style near the Griffith Observatory about four years ago, so he made a great return on his investment.
Completely updated with modern fixtures, the 3,000-square-foot home sports four bedrooms and 3.5 baths, and a beautiful blend of classic architecture and contemporary styling. Period accents like groin-vault-style ceilings, arched doorways, custom-designed tilework, ornamental columns, and original oak give the home its classic feel.
The kitchen stands out with a herringbone pattern backsplash, white marble countertops, a center island, and a dining nook flooded with natural light. Further inside, there’s plenty of room to lounge in the spacious family room; that space works in a cozy fireplace, and French doors leading to a balcony open it up breezily.
Outside, the luxury living continues with lush grounds, a cabana, a swimming pool, and a spa.
Bernstein’s production credits include work on next year’s ‘The Turning’; the adaptation of James’s classic spine-tingler ‘The Turn of the Screw’ looks ambitious, and will hopefully not turn out to be unintentionally satiric.
