At the Los Angeles Auto Show this year, Mercedes rolled out its 2020 AMG GT lineup. The automaker took the high-profile event as an opportunity to spread the news that the AMG GT series has been graced with the first major revisions since the inception of the model nearly five years ago, but they also revealed a new member of the family: the GT R Pro.
The GT R Pro is essentially an AMG Racing-inspired version of the model, but there’s more than cosmetic flourishes to the story. The limited production variant sports Team AMG looks, sporting well-defined structural and component alterations that include track-oriented aero that increases downforce while it cuts the GT R’s weight.
Many of the components added are made of carbon fiber, including rear splitter and diffuser and front splitter. Aero is improved by the tweaked rear wing and the flics on the front bumper and side help keep the car under control at higher speeds.
The GT R Pro also receives AMG Performance forged wheels, standard carbon-ceramic brakes, and a carbon-fiber roof that boasts a track-oriented look and a more dramatic sweep. Most interesting is the coil-over suspension that can be driver-adjusted to suit the purpose at hand. The Pro’s top speed is 198 MPH.
Mercedes will only offer the AMG GT R Pro variant for 2020. They haven’t settled on a production number as of this date.
