A South Florida estate owned by the tennis-star Williams sisters has hit the market. The property comprises a generous slice of a country club community in Palm Beach Gardens, and is listed at $2.7 million.
Serena and Venus Williams have owned the place since the late 1990s, when they bought the land in advance of what became a protracted build. The result is a nearly 8,500 square-foot home on a sprawling one-acre lot in the golf community of Ballenisles.
The size of the gated property—and the engineered landscape—allows for an abundance of breathing room. Formal landscaping surrounds the home, which begins with a circular motor court of brick pavers. Strategically placed palms, a host of shrubs, and groomed hedgerows give the property a lush but controlled feel.
The two-floor house features an extravagant stone entry, and a foyer with an inlaid polished stone floor. The living spaces are generally rendered in off-white, with a bit of cool toning and judicious use of warm wood adding some complexity; the kitchen is finished in beige granite and custom cabinetry and, aside from the library/reading room, is the warmest space in the house.
But this is a home that is more preoccupied with a particular ideal of comfort and leisure; that is, space, and amenities. In the former camp is the lovely, open-concept shared living area; in the latter, a media room with niche built-ins, a pair of galleries, an expansive home gym, and a juice bar present a generally athletic version of upscale living.
The pool is a big one; it boasts a stone water feature and a spa. A cabana and summer kitchen present recreational potential outside of golf, swimming, and jogging along the green aisles of Ballenisles.
The sisters have collectively won thirty singles grand-slam titles, with Serena hoovering up an astounding 23. And counting.
