Retired Lakers star turned Clippers board member Jerry West recently sold his warm, Spanish-inflected Los Angeles-area home for $2.165 million.
The 80-year-old NBA icon purchased the 2006-built house in Playa Vista for $1.695 million a little over a decade ago. The house was previously listed for $2.2 million, so it appears that West was able to make a favorable deal on the Mediterranean-style residence.
The three-story Playa Vista home is located just a few miles from the beach. It spans 3,700 square feet, with three bedrooms and four bathrooms, and an inviting flow; the living room transitions directly to a dining space and an updated kitchen complete with a breakfast bar, a center island, and stainless steel appliances. The layout also incorporates a casual family room and an office/library with built-ins.
The home features rough-sawn plank hardwood, arches, and terra-cotta tile for the balconies; lighting is more contemporary, balancing the warmth with a bit of 21st-century detachment.
Following his successful 14-year career with the Lakers, West went on to serve as the Lakers’ general manager for two decades. Under his leadership, the Lakers won six championships.
